Pillbox Hat

Description: Pillbox hat of beaded straw. The modified pillbox hat has a cylindrical crown of white straw embellished with tiny white beads sewn on in an all-over foliate design. Within the crown is an inner woven structure which extends slightly below the edge of the crown, having the effect of raising the hat slightly off of the head and giving space around it. Cloche Hat

Description: Modified cloche hat of dark blue velour. The oval body of the cloche is designed to be worn cross-wise on head, with one side dipping lower than the other. The sides are decorated with star motifs in dark blue sequins, beads and velvet circlets. Unlined, with inner hatband of black grosgrain ribbon and edged with a dark purple(?) band. Designer's and Retailer's combined label: "Hattie Carnegie / Inc / Original / Expressly for / Neiman-Marcus" Stamp on inside crown illegible.

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of black velvet ribbon, feathers, beads, and sequins. The hatlet is formed on a base of black velvet ribbon which creates an open oval at top back of head, and has a cross-piece across head and with extending swallow-tail piece towards wearer's temple. Along front, the ribbon is embellished with sequins and beads, and there is a large pouf of black, curly feathers at right side, which extends across front. The hatlet is unlined, and has no labels.

Description: Hatlet of off-white grosgrain ribbon. Designed as a wide headband extending across the crown of the head, the net base is covered with rows of pleated off-white grosgrain ribbon. Set at each side is a single rhinestones. Edges have tape binding. Unlined. No labels.

Description: Hatlet of black fur felt (beaver?). The shallow domed crown is overlaid with strips of the same fur felt, edged with black satin. One strip crosses front from side to side, and one small strip goes along each side, and where they cross they form a bow-shaped motif on each side. Unlined, with a red grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. With a single black bead headed hatpin. Stamped inside crown: "Flaminsol / Imported"

Headpiece

Description: Headpiece, possibly for a wedding. The headpiece is formed as a "butterfly" shaped wired under-structure covered with white velvet, curved to fit the wearer across the top of the head from ear to ear. The "wings" of the butterfly are covered with a wide white mesh, and on each side is a large artificial flower of white taffeta and white velvet, with green velvet leaves with rhinestones. Some remains of beige veiling. No labels or tags.
